IDHA’s Outstanding Dental Hygienist Award - 2007
Tammy Koch, an active member of the East
Central Dental Hygiene component, lives in Muncie and is
married with a family of six children. She has worked for Dr.
Tom Rector of Muncie since 1997.
Tammy has made three trips to the Republic of Kazakhstan
(bordered on the north by Russia and the east by China). In
1996, during her 10 day stay, she performed clinical work and
taught dental health and modern dental techniques to the
dentists and their dental assistants.
In 2008, she plans to return to Kazakhstan where she will be
helping the dentists learn and practice preventative care in
addition to the systemic relation between oral health and the
body. Doing so should provide a need for hygienists in their
dental clinics. Changes will be necessary to their Dental Act
and Regulations, to allow the dentists to lawfully use modern
day techniques.
Tammy is very passionate and dedicated to helping these
people. She unselfishly devotes her time and knowledge
teaching current dental care practices, and advances in the
field of dentistry and dental hygiene for the betterment of
the people of Kazakhstan.
A video is part of her documentation of her work and has been
shared with her component. Tammy is available to do
CE presentations for other groups. Please contact
her via
email with your
congratulations and questions!
