President’s Message Winter 2009
“IDHA: Enriching the present and inspiring hope
for the future by preserving memories of the past”

Greetings! I am thrilled and honored to serve as IDHA’s 2009-2010 President and am anxious to see where this next year will lead us as an association. As a 2008 graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry, I never anticipated being involved in leadership within my profession’s association; however, this past year has been one of the most rewarding, educating, and valuable years. To me, being a member in my profession’s association has great importance- I have a body of local hygienists encouraging, inspiring, and supporting me though my professional career. Also, ADHA stands firm behind me to maximize my impact as a dental hygienist by “empowering, supporting, and developing” me. The theme for 2009-2010 “IDHA: Enriching the present and inspiring hope for the future by preserving memories of the past” demonstrates my passion for improving this incredible organization to stand firm behind you, my fellow hygienists.

To enrich IDHA, the focus on membership must continue. Members are the foundation of this organization. I want to improve communication and networking within IDHA though Facebook, the IDHA website, continuing education courses, and component involvement with hopes that IDHA develops a unified, more personable connection to its members.

To further enrich Indiana hygienists, our voice within the political arena to achieve the goal of self-regulation marches onward. The inspiration of hope begins with HB1172. HB1172 allows dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia and allows dental assistants to coronal polish and apply fluoride. Rules and educational standards are being developed by the Indiana State Board of Dentistry. Stay tuned to IDHA’s legislation portion of the website for updates on this career-changing bill.

Lastly, is my vision to inspire hope for the future by preserving memories of the past. Without the guidance and wisdom of lifelong IDHA members and volunteers, inspiring hope for the future is impossible. New members admire the knowledge and dedication of experienced members. As an association, we must capture this admiration, expound upon it, and mentor. Mentorship is the ultimate way new leaders, like me, originate.

Please join me during my one year of focus to better enrich the hygiene profession, inspire future leaders, and preserve this association. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Thank you!
